Out of a gunny sack fall broken plastic robots...

It is totally sunny as hell here in the Cowlands but it is 11°F that feels Like -3°F. So misleading when looking out a window.

That's balls freezingly cold.

I had planned to spend the rest of the day sorting all of my power tools, plaster tools, and everything related to the excitement that is my mad house remodeling skills but the basement is really cold... especially the tool room under the foyer.

I need to get the first real coat of plaster up on the new project tomorrow so I really gotsta get everything sorted.

Much like the Transformers, there are still many many many boxes and bins that haven't been unpacked here at The Domicile since October's move and I really hate having to buy things again but I can't find this or that trowel or bit when I need it.

I also don't have to work tomorrow and if I can get a plaster coat up today, I can do a first sanding and a 2nd coat tomorrow!

The remodeling looks like quite a job. Receptacles look old. Is that single one the type with a screwed-in slotted adapter?

I'm thinking they're probably attached to knob & tube. That's a good system, if the insulation is in shape, though it won't be grounded.

Things to look out for: brittle insulation, especially where it enters metal enclosures (if one conductor enters a hole, it causes currents to flow through the metal, heating the insulation at that point, and causing deterioration.)

There's an excellent book called "Your Old Wiring" which has a lot of helpful tips.

I am just getting done with rewiring my old house; let me know if you have any questions.

Cordially yours:
Autobus Prime
w/minicon Farebox.

I'm leaving the wiring as-is for now.

Yes. It is all very old knob-and-tube but most of it looks ok. Don't know what the actually wires inside the walls are like but I'd imagine no worse for wear then the exposed feed lines in the basement.

I'm not going to redo any of this now, however I am going to have the entire house rewired and many of the outlets moved.

I want to bring in 200 service to the house, a totally new modern breaker panel (currently an old push-matic breaker system), as well as have everything properly grounded and some independently grounded outlets too.

I'm going to probably aim for that in 2009. It has to happen before the major kitchen renovation and also so I can have exterior outlets. I want to do a bunch of low-voltage lighting outside too.

The foyer outlet isn't screw in. I've never actually seen one of those in use in any of my old homes outside of a book. It just is a very early polarized outlet on knob-and-tube circuit.
