I finally freed last year's Botcon attendee exclusive Unit 2, the pre-Beast Wars form of Tigatron out of his bag.
Now I own a shit load of Transformers. I've owned, seen, or fondled some of the most beautiful pieces of plastic crack to some of ugliest pieces of shit ever made by Takara or Hasbro.
And all I have to say is I'm extremely sorry that it took me almost a year to open him up.
Unit 2 here has got to be one of the finest repaint/retools of a Transformer that I've ever had the privilege of owning.
Fun Pubs managed to take a tiny Cybertron basic mold and imbue it with such beauty.
Everything about Unit 2 is beautiful.
Now I'm partial to simple, well contrasting color palettes. This you all know. And Unit 2 is just phenomenal in his white, greys, silvers and yellow and black accents.
The black "tiger" stripes hint at his future white tiger form and yet add such depth to his details, especially as the design of the fabric on his Cybertronian car mode.
The choice of going with translucent grey plastic for his tires was brilliant and help to keep everything cohesive. A traditional solid black tire would have added far too much black.
Carried over to his weapon, the color palette allows the Cyberplanet key-powered laser gun to flow seamlessly into his car mode.
Everything about him is just perfect.
Utterly utterly perfect.
I know it's all part of the tiger awesomeness, but... am I the only one that thinks the marks on his face make him look like some sort of robo-Raul Julia?
Mamushka!
Not at all.
In fact. If there was anything I'd have to say I don't like about this guy, would probably be the fact they put "whiskers" on him.
I probably would have just painted the nose and chin a darker grey to offset them.
They just can't keep the resolution and hold those thin lines on an area so small.
