Chicago - At 5pm they must open a runway.

Chicago - The hotel is in line with a runway.

So around 5pm O'Hare must open a different runway.

All of a sudden at that time jets start flying over the hotel to land.

It is really trippy.

On the whole, the Radisson is pretty well insulated against sound.

I'd go so far as to say it probably was designed to be quieter because of the airport.

Chicago has a noise-abatement law that prohibits O'Hare from using more than one runway from midnight until 5 or 6 am. O'Hare has six runways in three parallel pairs, two running east-west, two running NW-SE, and two running SW-NE. If you're at the Radisson O'Hare, looks like you're right under the approach/departure path of runway 22R/4L.

sorry, didn't finish...

otherwise, they probably use all of the runways because they're so busy, and use them based on the departure direction of the aircraft, and which way the wind's a-blowin'. If the wind's coming out of the NE, then they'll be taking off right over your head, and if its blowing out of the SW, they'd be on approach over you.
