Antiquing or "I waited 50 weeks for this???"

So. World War III finally happened.

And I wasted 50 weeks for this?!?!?

*spoilers*

I don't know if you are superhero comic book geeks or not?

I used to be a major one and unfortunately have the 20+ years of collected waste in the basement to prove it.

But anyway.

So if you've been following DC Comics' weekly 52 series you know that we finally reached week 50 and Black Adam finally goes bat-shit crazy, killing millions, and all around becoming another retread loser after they built him up over the past 50 weeks.

I've read the usual bullshit DC marketing materials and comic site articles about how important this was going to be. So important that they even had to have 4 special oversize (and overpriced) extra issues out on the same day to contain the massive story.

And you know what?

Those 4 extra issues can only exist because of the poor conception of timing for the 52 story anyway.

All they do is feature the deaths of a few 9th-tier DC characters and quickly move this or that character from point A to point B so they can then take up where they were when the "One Year Later" gimmick began.

And most if the major questions asked about these missing or drastically changed characters are shown in a few panels.

It was totally a money-making gimmick and no doubt, fans bought into it . (Giga bought the comics. I only read 'em.)

Characters we haven't seen for 49 issues of 52 magically appear to only be moved from plot point A to plot point B for the sake of saying in 2 weeks (when 1 year is over) that these characters changed.

I'm sorry Didio. I just can't buy your bullshit comments and editorials anymore. Just come out and say "we want to make as much money out of our dwindling consumer base as possible" and not try to say it has to do with story integrity. It just doesn't wash in light of the final product.

World War III.

Oh what a waste!

Just get 52 #50. That's all you need.

Now we'll get 2 rushed issues to wrap up entirely too many storylines just to find out that some kind of multiverse is back, which in and of itself had absofuckinglutely nothing to do with the past 50 weeks of stories at all.

I'm not sure of the details, but can you assure me that it's worse than Thor Clones?

I don't read Marvel. I have no idea.

"I'm not sure of the details, but can you assure me that it's worse than Thor Clones?"

Nothing on God's green earth could have been worse than the whole "Civil War" storyline...

Long gone are the days of multi-part storylines like "The Infinity Saga" or "The X-Cutioner's Song"...

Well, I know DC but I don't really read DC. Not just because I have a total hate-on for Booster Gold, but. . .

Well, see, Thor vanished after destroying Asgard to break the cycle of Ragnarok. Then he went into Limbo in space or something. (I make no apologies for Marvel past 1990.) Civil War started, and was actually pretty good for the first few issues. At the end of 3, Thor showed up. I presumed Thor was going to tell both sides to verily suck it, but then. . .

NO! Thor was a clone created by Reed and Tony! (Stark) Who then killed yet another Black Goliath. Put me down in the column of people that think Gods don't really do DNA, and that Tony's a dick, but he wouldn't keep everyone's DNA on file should he suddenly need to clone them.

I stopped reading Civil War at that point. It just wasn't worth it.

I just about managed to stick it out to the end of "Civil War" out of a sense of stubbornness more than anything else...

But then Marvel killing off Captain America just totally killed any dedication that had been built up over the years of being a Marvelite...

I'm sticking to DD and IDW from now on...

Yeah between the 198 crapola, "thor clones", spidey revealing his secret identity to the world, killing cap, and now "Ares" (what a lameass cheap motherf'ing Thor ripoff....). Marvel sucks. I'm HOPING World War Hulk will bring my faith back to Marvel. I know Planet Hulk has ruled so far.

Wait wait this was supposed to discuss DC stuff wasn't it? :D Hrm..... the new Supergirl is hawtness in a bottle? :D
