Robots. Who needs 'em.

Of course I know a lot of my readership dropped off way back when I started losing interest and then that movie came along and pretty much wiped out my cares about robots.

However, those of you who may still read this here aging robot blog... what are you guys even interested in TF-wise anymore?

My Cowtown TF friends pretty much are all in the same boat I'm in and have moved onto other things.

But I'm curious what other people who stop by are looking forward to or have made gay robot love to recently.

Yup, I actually sold off a large quantity of mine. The only thing I hunted down and finally got last week was the ice cream truck. :) Reading the interviews with the toy designers it is crystal clear that hasbro/takara had no say in any of the designs and it clearly shows. Soundwave was the hint of what we were to get all year. While prime is nice and all the upgrade on last year makes it extremely hard to swallow and rightfully so when buster prime was just announced. Personally I hate all of the heads. I would enjoy seeing a 3rd party head replacement set. I do plan on getting the legends devastator. The question is to order the one from jp now or hope that there is a box set next year here. But really that is it. Maybe I'll pickup the usb ravage if I can replace the usb with something larger then 2GB...

I'm still into robots, just differently. The current product doesn't really appeal to me at all, barring some fun/weird one-offs. Ice Cream Twins is neat, and I picked up Blazemaster based entirely on my fixation with TV news (I imagine him being the Autobot equivalent of Bill Atherton's character from "Die Hard," all hovering over Decepticon HQ and shouting questions - MEGATRON MEGATRON CAN WE GET AN ANSWER PLEASE? MEGATRON WILL YOU CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE IN ALLEGIANCE WITH AN IMPOSSIBLY EVIL EXTRADIMENSIONAL BEING FROM THE UNIVERSE BEFORE OUR OWN? MEGATRON WE JUST NEED A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME. C'MON MEGATRON THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!)

Mostly I'm just into pipe-dream kitbashing right now. Boy, I'd sure like to strip paint off of this Powerglide and make a big Classics Bad Boy! Will I? Probably not. Beyond that, it's mostly filling holes in my collection, whether via connections (dude, I got Aveo Swerve. He's pretty neat!) or via pipe-dream kitbashing.

I'm done with the G1 stuff because I have my favorite characters.
I'm done with Beast Wars for the same reason.
I hate the movie stuff.
I love the Classics/Universe stuff but they seem to be done for now. (though rumors are I can get Inferno soon at Walmart for $10 here in Canada when they get some in). With the Classics, I am mostly collecting Autobots that are G1 related. I didn't get Hotshot for instance. I'm hoping they make Wheeljack, Jazz, Kup, and a few others. Those are my top three hopes though. I integrated Animated Blurr into my Classics set. He looks all streamlined because he animated but he seems to fit anyway. I want Animated Arcee but I guess I'm SOL on that.

Anyway, my wallet loves that there are no new robots for me to collect. I got a few Joes then self restraint stepped in and I stopped collecting those too.

I am still into Classics whenever they release some new ones. I'd like to get my hands on a Henkei Alert. I am liking a select number of the movie figures a lot, like Deluxe Sideswipe and Human Alliance Bumblebee.

Mostly I'm waiting for more Animated toys. I finally found an Activators Cliffjumper from someone on a message board I post at. Very pleased about that.

Amusingly, I actually went back and dug out some of my old go-bots after botcon. I got a nice Super GoBots Leader-01 and a couple Rock Lords at the con.

Still love this site. Makes me feel OK with myself when I'm filling up a shopping cart with plastic crack.
I sold off a large chunk of my Armada and Energon bots (this was kinda therapeutic for me). I never really got into the Cybertron or movie lines. However, I did pick up the new movie Prime, Jetfire and Megatron-they're kinda growing on me. I loved the Armada toys, but I'm pretty tired of the new releases, so I'm going back to old-school G1 to finish "collecting them all." I just finished collecting the Mayhem Attack Squad & I am pretty happy with them.

hm. yeah, the movie & toys make me angry when i see them. i keep hoping against hope that the last of the TFA toys will be released...

outside the usual toy collecting, i got really into the IDW comics, to then have that turn to crap too.

maybe i should just stop liking tfs... i seem to really get into it then everything goes terribly awry.

I've only really been picking up the left over TFA on clearance the only movie figures i picked up were the human alliance sideswipe and the deluxe version and that was only because of setimentality for the character but i've been able to save cash and use it find rare exclusives but lately i been working on my comic collection from Transformers to Legion of Super Heroes

Yeah, I've pretty much stopped really caring about TF since the Movie and to a lesser extend Animated was released.

I think part of it is I've mostly limited myself to things that are or can be attributed as "classics". Like if they ever do the logical thing and repaint Movie Sideswipe as Tracks, I'd get that.

Also I like the oddball ones. Like the little Toaster or the Ice Cream truck.

Otherwise I don't really chase after toys in general anymore, though admittedly it's also because I'm broke. I'm more interested in GI Joe than Transformers toy wise these days though even the Joe lines are pretty lame these days.

If you still read Lameazoid at all you'll notice my current obsession is the "other" TF2, that is to say, Team Fortress 2, a game for the PC.

Oh right, I've also developed a small obsession with conspiracy theoretical based politics and news.

THE MAN IS COMING FOR US ALL MAN!

since the movie i've been filling in the gaps. i've gotten the BTS nemesis trailer and the G3 trailer for classics prime. now all my classics prime molds have their own unique trailer. i've also got the ghost starscream in que and also awaiting the tfclub punch/counterpunch. the human alliance bots have sparked a little interest although i've yet to open sideswipe after purchasing it 2 weeks ago. still trying to find the 3rd party ladder for unverse inferno for cheap and red alert. some guys at TFINO.com hooked me up with some cheap botcon stuff like ironhide.

Lately, most of my energy has been devoted to beer, comics, old M.A.S.K. toys AND...................................25th Joes.

*sigh*

Simply no hope for me........

i'm with you morris, still trying to find Skybolt for less than $100

Clearly the readership didn't drop off entirely if you have a dozen posts on the subject.

While the Bayformer 2 movie and current crop of toys has brought entrophy to my collecting genes, I have to admit that some of the non-screen characters coming have me pretty excited. I'm thinking Breakdown, Dirge and Bludgeon here. But I can't even get worked up about the Robot Heroes line here, and I love those little guys.

So I've mostly retreated to filling in gaps in the collection, while I wait for the last of the Animated toys. Like getting the five piece Robot Heroes set with clear Mirage and Cliffjumper. Receiving the Roadbuster add-on weapons and head was a great surprise. And for what it is worth, the Hasbro presentation at the Toronto Toy Expo still showed pictures of Animated characters, which I hope is a sign that they will still come out.

Mostly, I've been keeping my TF love on with work on G1 munnies, and the TF of the day over at my site. 267 strong as of today. And once the kitchen renovations are out of the way (and I have a living room not filled with appliances) I intend to hit that with full force. (Unless I do something silly like make a Bad Boy with which to taunt Hooper X. :P) And using the downtime to pick up classic GIJoes and some of the 25th anniversary line, and rounding out the vintage catalog collection.

it was one of the late releases in the "split second" line. based on a F-4 with a desert storm era camo pattern and converted to an indy like jet car and a rocket. http://pulse.wyldware.com/toy/MSK_TOY_SKY3.JPG

GENTLEMEN.

I'm happy - I don't particularly care for the movie line and the kiddo doesn't particularly care either (although that new Bludgeon looks pretty neat), so we focus on other things - there's a Sigma 6 collection that still needs rounding out, and no child can ever have too much Lego.

We're basically happy to wait until the next round of Classics. :)

While not amazing, I enjoyed TF2 for what it was: a check your brain at the door summer popcorn flick. Just like the GI Joe movie.
:)

I like some of the TF movie toys, but haven't been a completionist with this line at all. Some of the good ones IMO: HA Bumbleebee, Voyager Long Haul, Deluxe Sideswipe, Deluxe Jolt, and Leader Prime. I bought Leader Jetfire too ... but he was a beeyotch to transform and didn't have much articulation.

Also waiting on Deluxe Hoist - the repaint of the first movie's tow truck (forgot his name) to add to my Classics collection.

Yesterday I bought an Animated Jazz because the guy who did his voice in the cartoon will be at a convention I'm going to this weekend. I'm not some huge Jazz fan but I know the guy's work from MAD Tv so it'll be an icebreaker. All I really want to get is a picture with him. That was sort of an impulse buy.

There's a new Animated Optimus coming out eventually that looks sort of like Godmaster Ginrai and I wanna get that.

The robot I'm really wanting is the new GX-49 Shin Mazinger-Z that transforms into a rocket punch. That's awesome and once I have a PO Box I'm ordering one immediately.

Initially I was really excited about the toys for the new movie but then I realized that, with the exception of Prime, you don't really need to buy Ironhide or Bumblebee or any of the other characters from the first movie if you already have the figures from '07 because the molds are almost exactly the same. The Ironhide figure from the first movie, as a matter of fact, is actually MORE screen accurate than the new one with the stupid gray paint job that wasn't even in the film.
As for the new characters, they really weren't in the film long enough to make an impact and make me want to buy them. The Fallen was cool but he was in the movie for like two seconds before he was skewered by Prime, Devastator looked like an ugly Megazord reject, Skids and Mudflaps were incredibly offensive and Arcee and Chromia, while being extremely cool, were only in the movie for like two seconds before suffering an offensive death. So yeah, movie toys just aren't a priority and I only bought one so far whereas when the first movie came out I was buying the figures left and right. I'm not going to "quit Transformers" or anything like that though because I believe the Classics line could come back and it seems like I heard something about a new cartoon series and toyline being in development.

I still stop by your page on a regular basis, but to be fair, when I first became a reader, I was still really into Transformers. Nowadays, I've long since sold 99% of my collection, and I keep the few TFs I have because they were my favorites out of all of 'em. Now my money goes to Joe toys, well vintage Joes, since most of the current movie toys suck really, really bad.

I will still follow your blog, even if only for the great photography of each toy you buy.

I saw pics of ROTF Breakdown, and that triggered some Stunticon nostalgia for me so I ran out and bought ROTF Sideways and Dead End to keep the shelf warm for Breakdown. I know Classics Drag Strip doesn't exactly fit the movie aesthetic, but...now I'm holding out hope for Motormaster one day (Maybe a retooled Voyager movie Prime?) I guess that shows how in love with the ROTF line when the only figure I'm looking forward to is a Scout-sized figure with a G1 paint job, but I actually ended up being pleasantly surprised with Sideways. I also managed to snag an Animated Leader Megatron for a great price, and I love him with a mighty loving. I'm also looking forward to Animated Soundblaster (Electrostatic Soundwave) & Ratbat and Blackout, but other than that, things are kind of quiet on the robot front. Well, on the toy front as a whole, really.

Not bought many TFs, trying to get the rare Henkei ones like Red Alert and Smokescreen...

Still, it saves my money for the Lego I've been buying. Reckon I'm up to 250,000 pieces now!

JOP,Sean:

You know, I was having this interesting discussion at Walmart the other day. There are certain quasi-Masonic signals used by the nerds of this dimension. Two of them are to start a conversation with "Gentlemen" or "Initially". Use of these terms reveals that the user is utterly consumed by the Dork Side. *initiates elaborate handshake sequence*

Another of the signs is the word "Essentially".

Essentially, I feel that the key to any hobby is moderation. I managed to kill off my interest in model railroading by making Big Plans, and later recovered it when I realized that I just liked playing with little trains. Robots are the same way for me. I haven't spent a lot on ROTF, but this isn't a sign of lost interest, but of keeping this hobby a hobby, and something I enjoy.
Those bits of Movie Stuff I have bought, I have liked a lot.

I have returned to my TF-hobby roots in another way...I finally went back and revived my Blurry Robot Theater photocomic, and it's been a lot of fun. This is all part of making the hobby something I can enjoy for my own reasons, and on my own terms, not just as some sort of consumption-mad market-slave. It's mostly being updated on TFW now, since Geocities is on the way out, and I still need to find new hosting.

Crazysteve alias EKM, you are totally responsible for all this, with that hilarious Adventures of Car Robot webcomic. I'm glad it's back up online. Will you ever pick that story up again? :D

It's not the best thing ever, but I have fun with it. I like to see other fans to do similar things...fanfic, kitbashing, etc. Make this hobby something more than just buy, buy, buy. Do that, and you end up saving some cash, but enjoying the purchased goods much more.

And that's what I'm doing with roboplasticos these days. :D

Cordially yours:
Autobus Prime
w/minicon Farebox.

I look back at that "Adventures of Car Robot" comic and I wonder who the heck wrote that stuff! Like it was someone else entirely. Man I was really crazy back then-the isolation I felt living overseas at the time with a computer running Windows 95 and a copy of Microsoft Paint was a deadly combination. I have no plans to ever continue TAoCR as I don't think I could channel that part of me ever again.

I do remember intending to write my magnum opus webcomic titled "GuitArmada" around the same time as TAoCR. I gave up doing Car Robot to pursue it actually. GuitArmada was essentially the Ralph Macchio movie Crossroads acted out with Armada figures. I photo manipulated the Star Saber minicons to look like guitars. It was going to follow the adventures of a Swedish guitar playing semi truck named Sven Primenkopf (played by deluxe Armada Optimus Prime) as he traveled cross country searching for his evil black recolor twin guitar god brother (played by Micron Densetsu Scourge) who was also robot satan. I think it was going to end in a battle of the bands against Unicron, who destroys Sweden by smashing a planet sized guitar into it. I really wished I would have finished GuitArmada but then that computer died with those files on it, plummeting me into a deep Swedish depression. It would have been epic.

autobus: Absolutely - every social group develops Shibbolethic tokens of community membership, and the united nerdery are no exception. Indeed, the geekosphere is so comprehensive that there's an entire hierarchy of signs and symbols, a veritable Nine Circles of Meme if you will.

Anyhow, more to the point: everything in moderation, plastic included, = good. Photocomicy goodness = good. Taking time away from the current Revenge of the Fallen line to concentrate on other, more pertinent issues - like introducing the kiddo to the Centurions line = good. ^_^

I still swing by your blog from time to time. I love your photos and how you keep count of each TF acquired.

Lately, TF's have been the only things that have been keeping my hobby alive. The bayformers are still bottom of the barrel for me...but I have still managed to pick up two different versions of sideswipe (which will probably be the only on-screen figures I'll buy from the ROTF line). Here is what has come through in the last several months for me (been catching up on some):

*Masterpiece Grimlock
*Masterpiece Thundercracker
*Henkei Onslaught
*Henkei Hound
*Henkei Strafe (Cyclonus repaint)
*Henkei Electro-Disruptor Ligier (Mirage clear repaint)
*Henkei Thrust
*Henkei Dirge
*Henkei Ghost of Starscream (on pre-order)

And then there have only been a few TFs that have been keeping me visiting local retailers:

*ROTF Sideswipe (as mentioned earlier)
*ROTF Human Alliance Sideswipe (as mentioned earlier)
*Target-exlusive Superion set (and I only got this because of the kick-ass 3rd party appendage set that was created..I can't stand that Hasbro originally designed this with no hands/feet)
*ROTF Thrust (Breakaway repaint)
*Universe 2.0 Powerglide (WalMart red repaint exclusive)

Yes, while most of the stuff that's on store shelves have heavily decreased my interests (like many of you), as you can see, there have been quite a few things that have been keeping me busy, by catching up on the Universe/Henkei line.

I'm still considering Henkei Alert, Inferno, MP Ultra Magnus and upcoming encore re-issues at TRU of Insecticons and Perceptor.

Please keep Plastic Crack going! I love it!

I'm so into Brave now. I recently acquired a big haul of them. I don't really care if they're the TF cousins or not, but these bots are nothing short of amazing figures. They are like heroin instead of crack, you know?

i've been a robot fan since seeing star wars in the theatre in '77, and as an adult started collecting transformers in '96. as i now step into my fourth decade, an artist and musician, i've discovered that i'll never "grow out of it", this addiction to this "plastic art" that is transformers. my collection has ever remained an organic thing, changing with me, dying and resuscitating, like everything that sticks with me and keeps me young. it's love and hate and back and forth. after all, it's about cultivating aesthetics, which is my reason for being!
and i love this blog and the pictures! bravo.
ps. and i'm so very excited about my G1 wreck-gar that's coming in the mail ~^_^~ he'll be the newest transformer in our new house- in my new attic studio! ...what to call it? plastic attic?
