Do you want me to sign Nala on your breasts? With a sharpie?

I've never understood wanting someone's autograph.

On a drawing the person just did? Sure. But just a signature? It makes no sense to me.

With comics, if a pen marks up the cover of a comic it is damaged.

However, if the person who wrote or drew it signs their name with the same pen it somehow has more value.

Damage is damage.

And what purpose does an autograph serve?

Validation you stood in a line and the person spent 20-30 seconds to sign it?

I've never ever understand it.

Oh. Why am I bringing up autographs?

Well, I delved into the scary world of TF message boards once today so I figured I'd venture back again and there are people getting all hot and bothered at the thought having have Peter Cullen autograph figures of Optimus Prime!

Why would someone do this?

I just don't get it at all.

I'll never understand why people find value in autographs at all. Especially when said autograph basically damages the item.

Then again, I've obviously found some value in the crack haven't I?

Bad craziness.

Now having Peter Cullen signing a Megatron figure and Frank Welker signing a Prime figure has an asburdity to it that I can appreciate.

I cant wait for Susan Blu to google herself and think, "wait, did I?"

I had Scott McNeil sign a print of the quasi-notorious "Dirk Dinobot" render at one of the 'cons. Unfortunately, it got trashed in my luggage on the trip home.

Hoop: Is that a Dirk Diggler reference? I'm not familiar with Dirk Dinobot.

I think all autographs really are is a way to make people ask you "Oh, wow, you were in the presence of some guy who I wouldn't know if I saw his face once? Neato."

Yes, I had Gary Chalk, Scott McNeil and Alec Willows sign my Beast Wars Season 1 DVD. And yes, Mr. Chalk signed right next to Optimus Primal's picture, and Mr. McNeil signed right next to the picture of Rattrap and Dinobot (which are conveniently on the same panel), and Mr. Willows just signed on some unrelated part because there's no picture of Tarantulas on the Beast Wars Season 1 DVD because Tarantulas gets no love. And all three signed a "rare" Beast Machines poster that my son won as a door prize, and my son, according to Scott McNeil, "SO rocks."

And yes, it makes all my Transformers friends jealous.

Okay, it only makes my brother jealous.

I have a giant Love and Rockets (comic, not band) poster that's signed, and a copy of JTHM #1 also signed. I have never met the Hernandez Brothers or Jhonen Vasquez. The poster was free and the comic I got in trade with someone. The poster is one of my favorite things in the world, but if it were unsigned? Yeah, it still would be.

See... the posters I can kind of see since they represent the fiction.

But the actual figures... I just... don't get it.

I suppose I never will.

That makes two of us.

"Look! The smear, on the right leg! That was Peter Cullen!"

Don't say I didn't warn you. Allegedly, this was leaked by guys inside Mainframe.
