So that auction that popped up the other day was for the final Botcon box piece after all.
It is actually the only bot in the box I really really like with the Prime coming in second.
The minicon is no big deal to me. I mean, it can't even connect to the Starscream so it is just another thing to throw in the box. I've never been much for minicons anyway.
From a mold standpoint, some of the people thinking they'd do an Armada Starscream since he had the minicon made a certain amount of sense, but I've got to think that the economics of this means that the other 2 animal minicons'll be in the add-in packs.
I love to read all the speculation on these things.
It goes from one extreme to another, and it can't be helped that the Classics line didn't have a Scout Class level figure, unless you count the minicon releases.
So the box contains a Voyager, 4 Deluxes, and a Minicon.
That leaves the other 2 minicons (the cat and the eagle) likely in an add-on set.
Though what the other add-ons could be and the attendee figure could I haven't a clue.
Maybe they'll be more to my taste than the box set.
---
Though I was just thinking. If it holds true that the other 2 minicons are in the add-on set, that would mean that they had to make equal numbers of add-on sets to the box and loose ones.
What would be awful, but I wouldn't put it past them at all, would be to do the 2 minicons as the attendee "figure" with them saying "it is 2 figures instead of 1" or something.
But those quantities wouldn't work either since there are more box sets made then attendees to the con. Sure they give away at the casino night and as door prizes some of the attendee figures, but they'd have way too many.
Oh well.
As I said, s'all pointless speculation by fandom. And now I feel dirty and filthy for just having contributed to it here.
2 Voyagers, no? If that's the Voyager-size Starscream and the Prime is also that size. Or I might not have been keeping track of what's in "the box" I suppose.
Attendee figure = Movie Voyager Skywarp (You heard it here first)
I can't remember what Classics Prime retailed for but I seem to remember him at the $20 price. Same as Megatron. That'd be the Voyager class no?
I seem to always remember the figures by their price point and not Hasbro's retail term.
I was thinking that Classics were all deluxes but Megatron and Prime were released as Voyagers.
Pulse: The attendee has always been a basic figure with the exception of Mirage.
Last year wasn't Alpha Trion a voyager?
Yeah.
And so was Pre-Beast Wars Megatron the year before.
But those are figures you buy at the con separately. There are usually 2 sets of 2 figures available but separate from the boxed set.
I can't see the attendee freebie being that larger size of a figure, though I remember hoping for it to be Sunstorm last year to complete the seeker set since Mirage and Sunstorm were the same class.
Thing is, with all the Sector 7 repaints and such, they'd end up regurgitating another of those molds again.
However the Cybertron beast basics have never really been redone. There may be something there if they decided to do the beast minicons.
Nala, you know what I mean. Why would they release a G1-Movie Screamer & Thundercracker but no Skywarp?
I didn't know what you were getting at.
Honestly, Hasbro doesn't have to release anything they don't want to.
I hope your right Nala, that the attendee exclusive freebie are the other 2 mini-cons - means I'm not missing anything there.
:)
TF Movie G1 Skywarp might be one of the extra add-on sets you can buy at the Con.
And I've read on various TF sites that the other add-on sets will include Dark Rodimus & Megatron (maybe Voyager class Classics Megs repainted as Galvatron?).
And if they release Sunstorm in the Classics G1 mold - FAWK.
DL: But exactly what does a TF Movie figure Skywarp have anything to do with the con Theme?!?!?!
The figures revolve around the con theme.
While Alpha Trion apparently wasn't in the comic, he was still fully part of the theme last year.
That true - I forgot that the figures had to do with the Con theme. D'oh.
Maybe the other add-on will be "good" Cybertron Soundwave???
Sorry for the double post, meant "That's true ..."
Maybe. Who knows.
I'm thinking one'll be a Megatron (based purely on rumours I've read), perhaps with the 2 other minicons, and then 2 other smaller ones painted.
If they were do to a Megatron based on the Takara smaller Super Link Galvatron mold, then it'll sorta follow through with the history of 1 add-on being a Voyager.
That means the other add-on set'll probably be two basics. But they've repainted the hell out of the vehicle Energon and Cybertron basics already between previous sets and Sector Seven stuff.
I'm wondering if they'll go the Beast basics route or, and this is more probable, something with the Energon combiner arms/legs that haven't been done for the Club yet.
Nala:Jetfire was voyager too remember?
A lot of rumor is going around that one of the add-ons is Evil rodimus with Spocks goatee!
The box is the set of (Starscream, Prime, Goldbug, Jazz, Grimlock, and Razorclaw) right? My point was that's 2 Voyagers (Prime, Starscream), 3 deluxes and a minicon. Instead of 1-4-1.
viscous: Yes. I'm sorry. I read the first part of your first comment differently then what you intended.
This set is actually varying from their historical model.
I wonder if that's just because there wasn't all that much available in Classics to begin with that could serve as sources this year.
I almost forgot Astrotrain. I wonder if some form of "hero" version of him may be an add-on.
Nala:astrotrain's current colorscheme already qualifies as that doesn't it?
I suppose.
But at least he'd be recognizable on mold alone. It isn't like they made a whole lot of Decepticon Classics figures to work with.
I'd just hate to see a bunch more Cybertron molds used. So many have had repaints in the mainstream line. But I guess, one the whole, they don't differ all that much from the design aesthetic of the Classics ones unless you go to the Jungle Planet stuff.
Hmmm... come to think of it... with a new head, there's a lot that could be done with Nitro Convoy. And he's a Deluxe too which they'd be more inclined to use to save some money.
Actually, that new Goldbug head is the only retooling so far that we've seen.
Maybe they'll invest more in the add-ons this year. Then again, the two voyagers in the set may take up more cost for them.
All I know is that FP definitely doesn't spend any extra money on anything unless they are guaranteed to make a profit.
Goldbug the only retool? uhm, what the fuck about jazz?
Wow. I just posted about him and I totally forgot he has a retooled head.
He truly did have zero impact on me.
Oh well, so much for thinking that they'll spend money elsewhere.
Then again, in 2005 we got 4 retools in Deszaras's head, the Ironhide/Ratchet head, Ratchet's scanner/light bar, and one of the bike heads.
2006 gave us 3 in a Primal head, a Beast Megs head, and a Cheetor/Unit 2 head.
2007 gave us 3 in an Alpha Trion head, Thrust's wings and the head retool for the Jetfire repaint.
Did I miss any?
So with Jazz and Goldbug, we may indeed get another resculpted head.
I think you missed waspinator in 2006 as well, not sure though.
Nah. The source has these little ridges on the head. They painted them with the stripped pattern to look waspy.
If they did, that'd be a mighty small head to redo.
I was shocked that most of them came out decently painted too.
You make an interesting point that the "thank you for showing up now leave us the frak alone" figure could be the cat and the eagle figure. Three good reasons off the top of my head:
* If they are already using the tools for one, it makes sense to use the "residuals" too - much like how we got BetaMaxx with Alpha Trion.
* I'm sure that given the expense of Mirage and the underwhelming reaction to him has left the powers-that-be considering ways to minimize costs there.
* If Razorclaw is a mini-con, then other Predacons could be too. Look out Divebomb and Rampage!
The only thing counting against it is that, if it did happen, it leads to the question as to why they bothered to separate them in the first place. But I'm already envisioning the collective air let out of the Botcon balloon...
But then far be it for me to voice an opinion / perspective and back up the possibility with logic. That only gets me in trouble.
Nala, I'm pleased to hear though that I was not the only one who wanted Sunstorm as the add-on last year. Prior to identity-disorder shattered mirror Starscream, I think that was the last time I courted controversy.
You'd think I was Pat Lee or something.
I figured it you are going to do a special set of all the G1 seekers you may as well do the fanboy created cel coloring error one.
I mean... Sunstorm has now been officially introduced into Hasbro continuities on several occasions so we may as well treat him as a real character.
I'm a filthy dirty bastard to for being the fan that doesn't give a shit about the Botcon Thundercracker and would totally trade mine in for a properly done Classics Ghost of Starscream.
Oh. And I'm just announcing now that I'm totally stealing the phrase "Thank You for Showing Up Now Leave Us the Frak Alone Figure", or TYSYNLUFAF for future use. :-P
It´s TYFSUNLUTFAF,not TYSYNLUFAF.
And sunstorm is my favorite seeker,i´d be willing to pay through my nose for a Classics version if the color scheme was appealing enough, heck, that coneheaded "sunstroke" idea you had earlier would even be awesome.
You really are bored most of the time aren't you?
Well,yeah. but obviously,so are you. ;-)
I'd love a Classics version of Sunstorm - I hope Hasbro just makes it part of the regular retail Classics 2.0/Universe line-up this fall and NOT an overpriced, frakking BotCon exclusive.
I hereby extend proprietory rights to Nala for the use of "TYFSUNLUTFAF" (which I imagine would be pronounced Tif-sun-lut-faf, or something approaching Klingon...)
Seems the least I can do since GRC seems to be burned into my brain.
GRC was never mine though. I ganked that from HooperX I think.
