Got an email from the GRCthat registrations will be out later today.

It'll be interesting to see what the other figures are, as they are usually listed on the form.

At least I think they have been on the previous forms.

What's funny? The mad rush I wish I could witness tonight as TF geeks across the world rush to fill out and fax in their form to get a little metal cloisonné pin.

Bad craziness.

nope, the add on figures have never been listed on the forms. We've always found out the first day there.

Not planning on going to Botcon, yet I feel like I'm missing something. Why?

n10zguy: Thanks. I couldn't remember really.

Heavyarms: You aren't really missing anything. Stay at home and read up on all the boards posting.

oh man. i wish i had the money to do it...but not this month! stupid car... oh well. last thing i need is more stuff, i just really wanted that black prime! :(

i have to say, reading the posts on tfw2005 about people trying to fax is crazy! i had no idea it was that low-tech. but as my dad likes to say, 'low-tech doesn't mean no tech!'

That pin will be mine!

hehe, I already faxed my stuff in. I got burned on the Hasbro tour last year. This year, there was absolutely no reason nor need for me to send it in this early, so naturally I got it in within an hour.

Im just a little bit ill.

Ive been getting up and going to bed early ever since they posted this "by the end of the month" stuff to make sure I could get in the Customs class. I also sent a message to FP concerning how I should submit my form since my boxset is supposed to be free this year.

So I get an email from Brian after the email saying the forms are up telling me to just put "Trip Winner" at the top and your form will be processed first... (-_-;) 2 weeks of getting up early for nothing. LOL

I forgot you actually get a freebie this year.

The pins sell for upwards of $40?? Really? Other than the Golden Disk one, I could part with the other two. I guess there would be a market for those too, but I didn't think it would be that much.

Let me rephrase that.

I've seen them sell for that but I have no idea which ones they were.

I wish I had the Golden Disk one. I'd so use it as a tie pin.

Nala: Well if you ever see the Dezsarus pin for sale point me at it. I might not pay $40 for it but I'd like to make an attempt at it. lol

Served. Notifications went out to confirm your registration was received. I got no such notification. I hate fax machines so very much.

Yeah. The fact that they use a completely antiquated system of registration (and not to mention for their classifieds newspaper) indicates that either 1) they just don't wish to spend the money to actually improve this system to something common in 2008 or 2) they specifically choose not to do anything since in their eyes it works just fine since they still get the money from you regardless because you are a captive audience. From everything I've ever seen, it is pretty obvious they are a mom & pop type operation.

What's also sad is I've seen college student organizations and events that are better run and organized. Hell... I was one of the people behind OSU's 1992 Homecoming and Parents Weekend, both very large events, and we did amazing things with almost no budget. And our events lasted more than 5 days!

What with living in the UK and basically refusing to spend shitloads of my money to go to Botcon and geek out all i have to look forward to is going to Auto Assembly this coming August...

It's nowhere near the enormity of Botcon but i'll take what i can get *nods*

Nala, agreed on the low-tech side of Botcon. Suspect it has to do with a combination of resistance to change and the upfront cost. Of course, they have an electronic system for their store, which makes their comments on changing the registration system moot.

Am always surprised by their reluctance though. Sure, there would be a cost to install things, but I expect it would make their lives easier at the back end. Hell, anything to prevent hundreds of Transformer fans breathing down your back has got to be worth the cost.

And given economies of scale, they could then use the same system for the GIJoe club.

Also wonders if Nala knows that "bad craziness" is actually a song from the 1990s...

Yes. But it first worked into the Nala Lexicon around 1984 or so when I started reading Hunter S. Thompson.

There's nothing quite like reading Thompson at the age of 14 to really blow your mind.
