So Botcon Thrust was unveiled and he looks pretty much like I expected he would.
They had to do the remold of the wings for him or else it just wouldn't be Thrust at all. The wings are really his distinctive characteristic.
I made the mistake of going into some geek forums and I am shocked and amazed that there are some people actually bitching about this figure.
It totally blows my mind that there would be any reason to complain.
Sure... they chose to put the wings up instead of on the legs. Who cares!!!!
Sure Botcon seems to want to follow some direct G1 deco pattern on these guys. Who cares!!!!
They are doing a pretty decent job with the 2 Botcon coneheads. If someone knows the G1 cartoon and toys they will certainly know who the hell these figures are if they see them.
Nobody is going to confuse these guys with Aerialbots or Powerglide!!!
All I can say about this is quit'cher bitch'n, sit back, relax, and drop your cash down on the set because you know you are eventually going to do it.
G1 purists can't get more gee-wunny than this!!!
Wow that's awesome. Damn I wish thesedidn't cost so much. My eventual kitbash will never look that nice.
IT LOOKS LIKE THRUST. Isn't that the point? I'm convinced there are some TF people who get into it just to bitch. . .
Wow... this is one helluva magical fandom.
I can give some credence to the idea that Dirge really needed his second pair of wings (a task that could have been engineered, remolding-wise, quite easily.) But it's hardly a showstopper.
And this?! He's a tad stubby, but you've got to work within the constraints of the mold - the same goes for complaints about his the size of his weapons, their color, his wings being on his back, etc.
All said and done, I personally wouldn't be surprised if this one new mold used up the entire molding budget for the figures, and rightly so. If that isn't worthy attention to detail and wish fulfillment, I don't know what it.
Did the fans ever complain about this stuff with Blackarachnia-Arcee? (Outside of the obvious comic-book-kvetching, I mean.)
Also, today's Firefox spell-checking weirdness:
"Arachnia" - fails.
"Kvetch" - totally legit.
Can I bitch about their price? I think it sort of sucks.
I also want to bitch about the massive conspiracy to bury the Classics line so that it doesn't compete with that stupid, ugly, destined to be peg-warmers movie line. Otherwise, the rest of the Seekers might have actually made it to stores.
That said, I want this Thrust as well as Thundercracker, which also means I have to want Dirge so's I can have all the Seekers. And it's all Michael Bay's fault.
JOP: Before Fun Pubs took over, the only previous retooling of a Con exclusive figure, to my knowledge, was the OTFCC Sentinel Maximus head.
Other than that, everything has been a straight repaint.
Nala: Oops, you're right. I'm just too easily amused at the idea that fans would swallow something as off-the-wall as Arcee: Black Widow over, you know, whether Thrust's rear fins should have fifteen degrees more upwards slant on their leading edge. Just saying. :)
BTW, was I the only one that thought Sentinel Maximus had one of the more eye-watering colourschemes?
I have never taken mine out of the box. I have no idea what he actually looks like.
*Looks and weeps...*
I'll never own all the Classics Seekers... It'd cost far too much!
M.
g1 starscream, skywarp, etc. all possessed hip wings. or is the bitching about cartoon accuracy?
jeremy lee: That's the beauty of it! If they model the new version on the old toy, the cartoon-accuracy-camp complain. If they model the new version on the cartoon...
