Classics Fugly

Ok. I have to ask.

Is it only me, Nala, that thinks the lame "Classics" Devestator repaint of Superlink Buildron is just fugly as hell?

I can't believe that Hasbro actually decided to rerelease this shit as a "Classic" of all things.

Hell. The goddamn ancient (and never-ever-seemingly on a release schedule) reissue of the Seacons is more "Classic" than this piece of shit.

Too many of the components suffer from the "gimpy hand" syndrome that I hate and I just don't think calling something Devestator and painting a few parts construction green really makes a "Classics Devestator" figure.

Then again, why should I really care.

I think this has just managed to hit a nerve in me. I finally noticed, after having bought every figure from the line and a few from the Japanese line, that I really really really really dislike about 90% of everything in from Superlink/Energon and that especially includes the anime.

Classics Devastator is a laughable toy. Stupid beyond words. For pete's sake, they have to recolor two of the vehicles gray and purple, otherwise they'd be identical to two other limbs in the set!

And you know how I feel about Energon. In my mind, it's down at the bottom of TF series. I would probably only put Action Masters and *maybe* the US Beast Machines toy lines beneath it. As for cartoons, yeah, it's the worst. Period.

Wow, I didn't even realize that was a repaint. As much as I love TF I guess I haven't aquired nerd in the attic status yet.

I still have my G2 Constructicons, so I guess I'll stick with those and surround them with some of the cool Classics figures...

I found the Armada toys less appealing than the Energon ones. And c'mon, you're ranking Energon below Machine Wars? Half the gimmick bots from G2? Really?

I already have Devastator from Energon, and was underwhelmed then. It's not an experience worth repeating.

Frowny: You make a good point about Machine Wars. It deserves a low rank too.

I'm probably being too hard on the Energon toy series. But Energon figures like Scorponok, Alpha-Quintesson, Optimus Prime, Demolisher, and Swoop/Grimlock make me cringe. And I am not a fan of the gestalt combiners either.

PS I would have liked Swoop and Grimlock much better without the combination gimmick. The added "play value" makes them flimsy individually.

i wonder if they'll recolor energon galvatron into classics galvatron.

I kind of like the original design of the Devestator recolor (Contructicon Maximus?) but considering this one has barely any color changes and is way to small for my tastes in Decepticons. Really they could release Deluxe sized Constructicons in proper Classics revamsp and make a totally bad ass Devestator.

It's not like Construction vehicles can really have a need ot be liscenced like say, making Classics Jazz from a porche would.

I can understand *why* Hasbro would want to do this (it's the same sort of "If the piece fits" mentality that sees us getting Classic LoCs.)

However, like you said Nala... it's an underwhelming figure. Fans have been praying for *years* to see new, updated versions of their beloved combiners... and the resultant reincarnations of Energon were such supreme letdowns.

Add to that the 'blah' colorscheme... I understand; you don't get four limbs, you get two sets of 'twins'. Common Constructicon aesthetic sense would suggest the first two be green and purple and the second two be purple and green... but black and purple? Eeeeeek...

I've said it before and I'll say it again; somebody in TakTomy needs to listen up already and start working on a Masterpiece Combiner, preferably Bruticus. That's got to appeal to them for sheer repaint value alone. ^_^

Holy crap JOP... I can see it now...

Masterpiece Baldigus. Masterpiece Ruination. Masterpiece Ruination with Arctic Camo Deco. And the inevitable Masterpiece Ruination with Desert Camo Deco.

Urban Camo Ruinition sits behind me as I speak. ^_^

Let's not forget: Generation 2 Masterpiece Bruticus, and Masterpiece Battle Gaia... oh, and the inevitable white-and-blue Ultra Magnus-is-my-brother deco that seems so prevalent nowadays.

Seriously though; who couldn't resist MP Bruticus with Mini-Con-sized Shockwave and a DVD of "The Revenge of Bruticus"? (Not to mention all the other usual gubbins, like super-articulation and firing missiles and light-piping and all that guff.)
